Unlike most Hollywood films, The Friend, which is based on the book by Sigrid Nunez, features a love story between a woman and a dog.

“His name is Bing, and his name in the movie is Apollo. We fall in love basically in this movie, when a new friendship is formed, and you can see why… he melts your heart!” explained Naomi Watts on the Tonight Show.

The decorated AKC champion title-holder, is multi talented pup who also knows how to sing!

Bing’s mom, Bev Klingensmith of Newton, Iowa, is very involved in the dog world, showing, breeding, training and doing dog sports. She’s also the President of the Great Dane Club of Des Moines, and is involved in the Des Moines Obedience Training Club, Central Iowa Kennel Club, and Great Dane Club of America.

Klingensmith said that when the movie producers initially reached out, she deleted the email thinking it was too unrealistic. “I’m in Iowa, he was talking about New York and all of these things, but I reached back out and decided I would try to help them find the right dog for the project,” she said. And when the head trainer, Bill Barone, flew to Iowa to meet them, he instantly knew Bing was the right dog for the project.
