Leonidas is an American Akita from Los Angeles, CA, known on Instagram as the King of Dog Kingdom, or the “Ice King” since he loves snow. Leo is also the CEO of “Dog Kingdom“, a growing dog brand that gives back to Akita rescues.
This holiday season, we had the chance to meet this gorgeous Akita and capture him in a DOGUE shoot on Rodeo Drive. We also sat down with his humans to learn more about the magical creature behind the crown.
DOGUE: How did Leo come into your life?
Stefan: Leo came into our lives when we didn’t even realize how much we needed him. From the moment we met, there was an instant, unspoken connection. He wasn’t just a puppy. He felt like a presence. A protector. A soul that had chosen us just as much as we chose him. That moment marked the beginning of a bond that would grow into something far deeper than companionship. He became family.
DOGUE: How old is Leo, and what attracted you to this breed?
Stefan: Leo is 5, and Akitas have always fascinated us because of their strength, loyalty, and quiet confidence. They’re not overly needy or performative. They’re deeply intuitive and emotionally intelligent. Akitas choose their people, and once they do, that loyalty is unbreakable. Leo embodies everything that drew us to the breed. Calm. Powerful. Protective. Deeply loving and incredibly loyal.

- His full name is Leonidas, like the Spartan king. It fits him perfectly.
- His nicknames include Leo, The Ice King, King, and Boo Boo.
- He has a regal walk. Slow, intentional, and commanding. He absolutely loves to walk and be in nature, so we try to do at least 10,000 steps a day, which is also good for us as his family.
- He loves being in nature more than anywhere else. Mountains, rivers, forests, and loves the snow. That’s his kingdom.
- He’s incredibly expressive. One look from Leo says everything.
