Colin from Accounts is BACK for Season 3!

The Australian comedy Colin From Accounts is back for Season 3—premiering Thursday, September 10, on Paramount+.

The series, which explores the messy realities of modern dating and complicated relationships, has Colin—a lovable Border Terrier—at the heart of it all, bringing his new humans, Gordon and Ashley, together and setting the story in motion.

In this DOGUE Exclusive, we sat down with the creators and stars of Colin From Accounts, Harriet Dyer and Patrick Brammall, to talk about Colin—the fur star of the series—what it’s like working with a dog on set, the personal inspiration behind the show, and the real-life “Colin” in their lives.

DOGUE: What inspired the story of Colin From Accounts?

Patrick Brammall: Harri [Harriet Dyer, Patrick’s wife and co-star] had worked as a nanny years before where she walked a pram into a pole because she was distracted by a handsome guy. We took that to the extreme and imagined a moment where two strangers’ casual attraction suddenly creates a shared problem, caring for a sweet dog.

DOGUE: Do you have a dog? Tell us about your pets and the impact they’ve had on your lives and/or your relationship.

Patrick Brammall: We do! Our boy is Walter, an 8 year-old chihuahua mix and we honestly couldn’t love him more. We got him from a rescue place in LA (Wags n Walks — so good!) when he was a few months old. He’s traveled with us all over the US, and even came to Australia with us to shoot this third season (huge undertaking but SO worth it). He was my best man when Harri and I got married, and our two daughters (his little sisters) are obsessed with him. He puts up with them.

DOGUE: Tell us about the pup who plays Colin. What was the casting process like, and what made you know he was the one?

Patrick Brammall: Zak is our main Colin. He has a double, Buster, who comes in about 10% of the time. Both VERY good boys. So calm, so professional — we never had to go again for Zak, he hit his mark every time. When casting, they gave us a book of available dogs and honestly he just looked like the Everyman we needed — scruffy fella, kind eyes. We had no idea he was a Border Terrier breed. But the BT community is STRONG.

DOGUE: What is it really like filming on set with a dog co-star? Are there any funny or unexpected moments that stand out in particular?

Patrick Brammall: The biggest thing to deal with honestly is the smell of turkey or chicken treats all over the set. Not our favourite but they do the trick for Zak.

DOGUE: After three seasons, what does Colin mean to you personally?

Patrick Brammall: He’s the glue. He’s the quiet engine of the whole show, we’ll always love that boy.

DOGUE: Colin has become such an important part of Ashley and Gordon’s story. What do you think makes the relationship between humans and dogs so powerful, both on screen and in real life?

Patrick Brammall: Dogs are the most incredible supporters of humans. They give love, affection, and absorb our feelings towards them without question. Harri and I say it about Walter all the time: he’s the best of us.

DOGUE: If Colin could talk, what do you think he would say about Ashley and Gordon’s relationship?

Patrick Brammall: “Guys. Get it together.”

DOGUE: What do you think Colin understands about Ashley and Gordon that they don’t understand about themselves?

Patrick Brammall: That they belong together. Gordon & Ashley spend a lot of energy gnashing their teeth about that, but Colin gets it.

DOGUE: If Colin were to appear on the cover of DOGUE, what would his cover line be?

Patrick Brammall: “Everybody’s Talkin’ At Me.”

DOGUE: Is there anything else you’d like DOGUE readers to know about COLIN FROM ACCOUNTS, Colin, or your experience making the series?

Patrick Brammall: This show is made to bring joy to its audience — and our love of dogs is at the centre of that. We really don’t deserve dogs!
