The City of West Hollywood celebrated the 9th annual World Dog Day, organized by The Vanderpump Dog Foundation, Lisa Vanderpump’s dog rescue organization.
“My favorite day of the year will always be Vanderpump Dogs World Dog Day,” Lisa Vanderpump said while taking the stage at the event.
The celebration brought together dogs and their humans for a day filled with Vanderpump Dog adoptions, music, contests, games, special performances, and adorable photo opportunities, while raising funds and awareness for rescue dogs in need.
The Vanderpump Dog Foundation
The Vanderpump Dog Foundation was founded in 2016, followed by the opening of its physical rescue and adoption center in Los Angeles in 2017. The reality television spin-off series Vanderpump Dogs later premiered on Peacock in 2021.
The Vanderpump Dog Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dog rescue organization working on both domestic and international fronts to create a better world for dogs.
According to the foundation, it operates two rescue facilities in China, providing care for dogs rescued from the Yulin Dog Meat Festival and the dog meat trade.
The foundation’s work extends beyond its own facilities. As the organization describes it:
“The Vanderpump Dog Foundation’s mission to create a more humane world for dogs extends across the globe. In addition to our rescue sanctuary in China, we also partner with rescues in several different countries to help provide dogs with the essential care they deserve. From feeding dogs in Peru to vaccinating and spaying/neutering dogs in Venezuela, find out how you can help support our dogs around the world!”
One of the foundation’s programs is its Veterans Program, which pairs specially trained service dogs with veterans experiencing PTSD, at no cost to the veterans. Through the program, a dog rescued from a severe medical or neglect situation can be rehabilitated and trained as a service dog, providing the dog with a second chance while also helping a veteran in need.
