Some dogs become part of our lives. Others become part of who we are. For Amanda Seyfried, that dog was Finn.
The beloved Australian Shepherd has passed away at the age of sixteen. Seyfried recently honored her longtime companion with a touching tribute on Instagram, sharing a photograph of the two together and writing, “This one’s forever and ever.”
The actress also shared memories of Finn throughout the years, offering a glimpse into the life they built together and the special place he held in her heart.

Their story began when Seyfried adopted the rescue pup while she was working on the HBO series Big Love. At first, she didn’t necessarily expect their meeting to become a lifelong commitment. But it didn’t take long for the connection between them to become undeniable.
“I took him home thinking I was going to, like, find a home for him and have him for a couple of weeks, but I fell in love with him right away,” she said in an interview with People. What followed was a friendship that would shape some of the most important years of her life.

In interviews over the years, Seyfried has spoken openly about the profound impact Finn had on her, particularly during her twenties—a time marked by the uncertainty of a growing career and the challenges of navigating anxiety.
“I was just like, ‘I’m going to keep him safe,’ and then he just ended up keeping me safe,” she shared. “I had struggled with a lot of anxiety and I have OCD, and my twenties were just hard in general, like anybody’s twenties are hard, so I think he grounded me in a way that nothing else could have.”
As her life and career continued to evolve, Finn provided something that was often difficult to find: consistency. For Seyfried, he wasn’t simply the dog waiting at home. He was her constant.
“He completely changed my life and helped me find my solitude and my independence.”
With a career that often meant not knowing where she might be from one month to the next, Finn became an anchor—a steady presence through a life of change.
Finn’s life was one filled with love, companionship, and purpose. He was there for Amanda Seyfried through some of her most formative years, offering the kind of unconditional presence that only a beloved dog can provide.
Now, as Seyfried says goodbye to her soul dog, one thing is clear: Finn’s place in her life—and in her heart—is forever.
